“The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved”- Mother Teresa‘Elder Care Trust’, a non-profit organization that is committed to providing inclusive healthcare to elderly patients. Elder Care Trust is raising funds for its care center for the terminally ill senior citizens in Ahmedabad.At present, we have around 30 senior citizens at our care center and all of them suffer from terminal diseases like dementia, Alzheimers, cancer, paralysis, etc. Many of them are too weak to walk up to the washroom and need constant care and attention. We strive to provide them with the best preventive, curative and rehabilitative care, with an intention to minimize their physical pain and suffering.We have a team of committed caregivers, who take care of all their needs with utmost dedication and love. A caregiver is assigned for every two members so that they receive personalized attention. Every day, they are served four freshly prepared meals along with dietary supplements like milk and juices as per their needs. We also provide them geriatric support and counseling so that they are never overwhelmed by their condition and understand the specific ‘dos and don’ts’.At ElderCare Trust, we understand that giving our members the best medical care and alleviating their physical pain is just not enough. Senior citizens at our center have been contributing to society all their life and they deserve all the happiness, joy and love during this last leg of their lives. So, we aim to create a holistic environment for them. With an intention to encourage companionship, various outdoor and indoor recreational activities are carried out on a daily basis. We celebrate festivals and birthdays with gusto and also organize fun events like comedy shows or ‘yoga for the elderly’ on a timely basis.At ‘Elder Care Trust’, we have so far had the privilege to serve and learn from more than 100 senior citizens since our inception. One thing that I have realized, is that these ‘veterans of life’ are the guiding light to an otherwise insensitive society lacking in compassion and that we need them much more than they need us. Their profound wisdom and the unconditional love they shower upon us is something to be treasured and they are to be cherished, rather than to be inhumanly deserted as they reach the twilight of their lives.
