At Dhanak of Humanity

We believe every child, regardless of their background deserves a safe, nurturing, and equal start in life. We are committed to bringing marginalized children from the shadows to the center of the social narrative by amplifying their voices, protecting their rights, and empowering their families and communities.

We work closely with Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP), Children of Incarcerated Parents (COIP), and Children of Marginalized Families (CMF); ensuring they receive the care, support, and opportunities they deserve. From legal support and counseling to education and skill development, our programs are designed to break cycles of neglect, abuse, and poverty.

Through our Centres for Learning and Empowerment (CLE), over 50 students are enrolled in foundational education including English and computer literacy– to equip them for a brighter, self-reliant future, and skill-building programs and activities including school sessions, workshops, field visits, and educational trips.

The frequency and quantum of missing complaints of adolescent girls in the news papers and the cases of romantic relationships being produced in the Child Welfare Committees (CWC) also showed the importance of working with the adolescents from the marginalized section of society in Delhi. Therefore, Dhanak started working with adolescent girls and children located in Trilokpuri, Chilla Village and other marginalize areas of East Delhi.

Work with (CNCPs)

Children in need of care and protection (CNCP) are referred to Dhanak for support and rehabilitation counselling by 6 Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) in Delhi. Dhanak provides the required service in the capacity of Support Person. Cases that areattracting Prevention of Child from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) due to sexual abuse from a known/unknown person and related to abduction of girl in their teenage are being dealt by Dhanak since 2019.

A team of Support Persons from Dhanak works with different stake holders like CWCs, Police, DSLSA (Delhi State Legal Service Authority), Delhi Commission for Women (RCC), parents and government schools as per the rules and guidelines under POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act.

Work with (CMFs) & (COIPs)

During our work with CNCPs it was realized that majority of them are either the students in government schools or are staying with their families in urban villages, slums, resettlement colonies or localities that are considered irregular by the civic authorities in Delhi.

Their parents are working as helpers, drivers, construction workers, domestic help, and some were even Incarcerated. Therefore, Dhanak also started working with the children of marginalized families (CMF) and Children of Incarcerated Parents (COIP) who are not CNCPs.
