Story

Kidney Failure patients or patients with End Stage Renal Disease undergo hemodialysis, a process involving 3 to 5 hours blood filtering through a artificial dialyzer through cuts in their arms with a AV Fistula or Grafting.

This process for many such patients is 3 to 4 times a week, extending to 12 times every month, making them most vulnerable and imperilled group.

This Traumatising procedure is itself indicative of the apathy of the patients mental agony and abets our concerns towards the patient and his/her family as well.

Poor living conditions and risks associated call urgent attention to such needy families. Due to lack of affordability patients “under treat” themselves - (Instead opt for less no. of dialysis example 2 instead of 4 which exposes them to higher risks of morbidity.

MESCO needs to draw Lotteries, unfortunately due to lakh of funds to select handful out of a huge pool of highly deserving patients at its doorstep. It is extremely disheartening to see kids and young teens who are undergoing dialysis treatments running from pillar to post for collecting funds for treatment, instead of attending schools or colleges at adolescence. While the handicap, old aged and dependant cases, who are abandoned and have least hopes of care, raise our challenges to bring somewhat possible relief.

MESCO provides six months continuous treatment to each patient selected. The money is paid directly to the dialysis center in advance, at the beginning of every quarter. Each year in June and December, we invite the patients on a particular date and time and issue token numbers to them. If the number of patients attending the programme is found to be in excess of budgeted numbers, then we draw a lottery in their presence and issue the Application Forms to those selected. Patients are advised to submit the forms within a stipulated time with requisite documents.

The Scheme instill following impact in lives of patients:

• Patient gets relief from financial stress, the main aims of patient mostly is “To Live” and with timely aid a patient tries to normalise everyday life going through dialysis.

• Patients receive psychological care on being supported, particularly those demonstrating emotional problems, in order to achieve better results during treatments

• Financial support helps patients be more aware and alert of their life style adaptation and dietary improvisations (eating and drinking limitations) to help aid longevity of life.
