Help disadvantaged children grow their own fruit and vegetables

A survey suggests that every day around 25 new homeless children find their way to Mumbai from across the country. Often girls from here are seriously at risk of exploitation.

Our centre in Maharashtra takes care of homeless girls from disadvantaged backgrounds who are vulnerable to human trafficking for sexual exploitation or child labour.

We provide safe shelter and care to homeless and rescued girls at our centre, ‘Naunihaal’. In addition to a supportive loving environment, the Naunihal home provides girls with educational programmes, medical check-ups, and additional recreational activities.

We also encourage children living here to grow their own vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs in the shelter’s garden using pots, sheds, and bio-waste. In addition to giving them an enjoyable pastime, it also acts as a sustained source of food for their daily meals.

This project will help girls at our centre continue with a productive activity like gardening. Often these children come with a tragic past and creative activities like this help them to move forward with their lives and become more open to the rest of the world.
