Hi there!
Did you know that children of migrant laborers don’t have an opportunity to attend preschool? Most children are taken to construction sites or join their parents in segregating waste. They spend their day in garbage dumps or in piles of cement and gravel, with little or no supervision.
Diya Ghar provides Early Childhood Care and Education for children of migrant labourers. There are an estimated 50,000 migrant children in Bangalore without access to education, nutrition, or medical care. Their parents work in construction sites, garbage segregation centres, as vendors at bus stations, and as door-to-door knife sharpeners. Many of these families also resort to begging for a living. Some children accompany their parents to work, while others are unattended in their tents.
Diya Ghar provides holistic education in a safe and nurturing environment to children of migrant laborers who would otherwise be exposed to neglect and abuse. Children also receive nutritious food, healthcare, and daycare while their parents are at work. We currently serve 1,000 children across 22 Centres in Bangalore.
Meet Rajeshwari and her siblings!
Rajeshwari and her family moved to Bangalore 7 years ago from Bellary. Her father is an alcoholic and doesn’t provide for the family. Her mother works as a construction worker and takes care of her four children. While the oldest daughter attends a Government school, Rajeshwari, all of 5 years, used to care for her 2 younger siblings! Her mother was so happy when we started a Centre in their community and welcomed in Rajeshwari, Malleshwari and Ganesha who was just 2 years old! All three children settled in well and are quick learners.
Rajeshwari graduated in April and has enrolled in a Government school. When you ask her what she wants to become, she says with a smile,“A Teacher!”
Support the Dreams of 100 Children
Currently, 100 children like Rajeshwari require funding for a year. These children live in migrant communities in Bellandur and Marathahalli. Their parents are construction workers and waste pickers.
We want to make a difference in these children’s lives. Would you join us in our mission?

Children do various activities to develop their fine and gross motor skills. We also focus on their social and emotional development. We prepare children to enroll in primary school.
Nutrition: Every day we provide lunch, milk, eggs, fruit, protein bars. Our nutrition provides a child with over 70% of his/her daily requirement.
Health & Child Care: We provide Multi vitamin syrup and Vitamin C tablets to all children everyday. We conduct quarterly health camps and support children who need treatment. We provide clothes, slippers, blankets and hygiene kits.
Impact and Goal: We have served over 3,500 children. 385 children (first generational learners) have graduated from our preschools and enrolled in Primary Schools. Our next milestone is to reach 5,000 children everyday.

How Diya Ghar Works
Diya Ghar was founded in 2016 with serving five children. In the next few years, we grew to three Preschools and Day Care centres reaching 135 children. In 2020 we shifted to a community-based model and established preschool centres in the localities where the children live. Today, more than 1000+ children attend classes daily at our 22 Community Centres and receive education, nutrition, child care and medical care.
From our inception until June 2022, Diya Ghar has served over 3500 children
Early childhood care and education are critical to a child’s development. Migrant families are unable to send their children to Government run preschools since the schools are not close to the communities and also because parents are unable to drop their children off at 9 am and pick them up at 3 pm. Diya Ghar runs Montessori Preschools and Day Care Centres in and around communities. Our focus is nutrition, education, health care, and child care. Children have breakfast, lunch, and snacks which cover 70% of their daily nutritional needs. We teach them Math, English, and Kannada using the Montessori method. We do several activities to enhance their physical, emotional, and social development. We conduct quarterly health camps and support children who need treatment.
Diya Ghar's goal is to give each child the opportunity to experience the joy of learning. Join us in changing the lives of 100 children in the Bellandur and Marathahalli.
Your support can change a child’s life forever.
