Campaign by Bhavada Devi Memorial Philanthropic Trust, SENEH
This is the story of an amazing human being named Group Captain A.C. Barua, is fondly called ‘Sir’ and ‘Deuta’ (father in Assamese) by the residents of Seneh. Every day, he receives calls from people pleading for help to rescue abandoned and homeless women lying on the streets, alone and in desperate need of assistance.
“I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources; our resources are minimal,” explains Gr. Capt. Barua, who served the country in the Indian Air Force for over 30 years. 80-year-old Group Captain Barua cannot fulfil his mission of rescuing abandoned and homeless women from dying on the streets without your help. Seneh- A safe haven for homeless women
Gr. Capt. Barua has made it his life's mission to rescue abandoned and abused women and provide them with a loving home filled with care and hope. The residents of Seneh often suffer from mental health conditions or have been victims of domestic abuse or abandonment. Many of them have been labelled witches due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. But Gr. Capt. Barua has rescued them from critical conditions, giving them urgent medical care, nutritious food, and a safe shelter where they can live with love and care.
One of the residents at Seneh, Sarala Kalita, escaped from her abusive husband and was facing neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. They wanted her father to leave her somewhere as they didn't want to take care of her anymore. Fortunately, her father got in touch with Seneh, and Gr. Capt. Barua took her under his wing. Sarala has found joy in living at Seneh and has even been given a harmonium to pursue her passion for singing. She says it makes her forget everything and takes her someplace else entirely.
Group Captain Barua needs your help
Seneh is currently home to more than 28 destitute women, each with a unique story and a need for love and care. The amount of care and support required for these women is immense. In the past few years, SENEH has gone above and beyond to ensure these women receive the medical attention they need, including cataract operations, dentures, hearing aids, and even psychiatric medication for those in need. It's heartening to see such a compassionate effort being made to help these women who have faced many life challenges.
Gr. Capt. Barua spends around ₹3 lakh a month on running Seneh. More often than not, he has to spend from his own pocket. But he can hardly sustain it any longer. The expenses are growing daily, and he needs more funds to support the growing needs of the residents.
One act of your kindness can save these abandoned women, with no one in this world, from struggling on the streets to survive. With folded hands, Gr. Capt. Barua says, “Please help these old people who have nobody in this world. They are dying and will die on the streets unless we help.”
Please donate now, and let us make a difference in the lives of the elderly women at Seneh.
