“Parvathi Amma (name changed) was brought to Akshaya Trust by her son. He brought her here saying she was being taken to the hospital for treatment and he would be back in a while. It's been 8 years since that day. The phone number he gave to us was made up, even his address was false. Imagine the pain of the mother who was abandoned in such a heartless manner. She is not the only one. We have over 260 elderly parents here and most of them have faced abandonment, neglect or even abuse”, says G Gopalan, the founder of Akshaya Trust, the NGO taking care of abandoned seniors who have no one else in the world.

This organization attends to all their needs, providing comprehensive medical care and ensuring they recover from past traumas. The trust also organises joyful celebrations during festivals and special occasions, bringing happiness into their lives.

To date, Akshaya Trust has served over 1,000 elderly parents most of whom were from extremely weak financial backgrounds and had no way to fend for themselves.
