“Parvathi Amma (name changed) was brought to Akshaya Trust by her son. He brought her here saying she was being taken to the hospital for treatment and he would be back in a while. It's been 8 years since that day. The phone number he gave to us was made up, even his address was false. Imagine the pain of the mother who was abandoned in such a heartless manner. She is not the only one. We have over 260 elderly parents here and most of them have faced abandonment, neglect or even abuse”, says G Gopalan, the founder of Akshaya Trust, the NGO taking care of abandoned seniors who have no one else in the world.
Without Gopalan’s Akshaya Trust, countless elderly would still be on the streets or simply deprived of the love and care they deserve. The NGO takes care of every single need of its seniors from Food to medical care and housing.

G Gopalan, a well-to-do businessman preferred to serve the elderly than living a peaceful retired life. He says that he was too shocked to see the state of the elderly, treated shabbily by their own children.

Today, Akshaya Trust offers a safe haven to over 260 elderly parents, shielding them from the harsh realities of street life. This organization attends to all their needs, providing comprehensive medical care and ensuring they recover from past traumas. The trust also organises joyful celebrations during festivals and special occasions, bringing happiness into their lives.
To date, Akshaya Trust has served over 1,000 elderly parents most of whom were from extremely weak financial backgrounds and had no way to fend for themselves.

Lakshmi would have ended her days forgotten, hungry, and hopeless if not for Akshaya trust. But with our help, she is thriving within a community of hundreds of abandoned elderly.
From the period April '25 to September '25, we have continued to care for 320 abandoned elderly in our shelter home. This includes providing nutritious meals, arranging community events, and taking care of their health needs.
Our inmates once had their own hopes and dreams, but have been abandoned in their old age, often by the very family that they raised and trusted. As such, we urgently need your help to sustain our shelter programme.
Please support our efforts toward ensuring no aged person is left to die on the street.

Life goes on at Akshaya Trust's shelter home. Over the past financial year, we've continued to provide life-saving care to all 260 of our dear beneficiaries.
The aged and infirm need frequent, intensive medical care. We are proud to say we've accommodated our beneficiaries' every need, but we need more support! We also ensure they are fed with 3 nutritious meals a day, to complement the maintenance of their health.
Please donate so we can do more! Our funds are not limitless, so we rely on our generous donors to keep our home running for as long as it takes to end the curse of homelessness in our society.
