Help Inchara Foundation give a loving home to sexually abused minor girls

Unable to speak even a word owing to trauma, Priya (name changed) was trembling out of fear when Inchara Foundation reached her. Raped by a neighbour, the minor girl failed to express what she had suffered. But when counsellors handed her a pen and paper, she drew the forest where she was assaulted and the open-well into which she tried to jump. Priya was‌ provided urgent medical care, counselling and a loving home by Inchara foundation. Inchara has been on a mission to end child sexual abuse and heal the wounds of those victimised.

Preetham Rodrigues was devastated seeing the growing instances of child sexual abuse and its horrifying impact on young, innocent victims. He took a stand against child abuse and founded Inchara Foundation which has provided a safe haven to over 15 minor girls.

Preetham, despite financial difficulties, has somehow kept the shelter home going. Hidden plight of innocent victims

“Almost 90% of the time, the perpetrator is known to the child. The sexual abuse incidence takes place within the family itself. And it is not restricted to villages and slums child sexual abuse is prevalent everywhere. In the majority of the cases, the victim herself is shamed and accused of wrongdoing due to family and social pressure. The stigma is such that ‌parents choose not to file cases or give the victim the medical care and help needed”, says the nonprofit founder.

It was in the backdrop of such practices that Preetham decided to start Inchara Foundation. “I started going to schools to sensitise students, teachers and parents about child sexual abuse. And I soon realised that there wasn't a single specialised institution that was equipped to care for the victims,” Preetham adds.

How Inchara Foundation is changing lives

Inchara Foundation has reached over 50,000 people as part of its sensitization campaigns and has provided safe shelter and education to over 150 girls. The organisation and its team of counsellors provide therapy to victims at the Inchara Home. This is vital for those dealing with the trauma of sexual abuse. The organisation offers victims skills training, education, a home and the love and care they need to begin their life afresh after facing the horrors of abuse. 

At present, Preetham is operating Inchara Home in a rented house and is struggling to keep its operations going due to a lack of funds.
