Help Musahar Girls Go to Schools.

Musahars are amongst the poorest of the Scheduled Castes and their deprivation is such that they are often compelled to subsist on the diet of rats and similar rodents. Their population is concentrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. According to Census 2001 and 2011, literacy rates in Bihar remains amongst the lowest in the country, wherein the Musahar community has shown the lowest literacy level at 3.9% for female literacy. The Musahar community is a highly discriminated and excluded community within Dalits. The situation is even more dire for Musahar girls. They are out of school by age 10. Many are forced into early marriage and have multiple children by the time they are 15 years old. They are trapped in a life of extreme poverty and social exclusion.

We will empower 50 Musahar girls with basic literacy and numeracy skills classes and motivate their parents to send them to schools. Alongside this, girls will attend weekly life skills support activity to improve their self-confidence and decision-making. Training sessions are also designed to strengthen girls' awareness of their basic rights like education, health, employment and social services.

The work will transform the life-prospects of excluded 50 Musahar girls giving them self-confidence and learning and encourage them to go to schools for learning. A positive environment will be promoted for Musahar girl’s education and basic rights. Not only, the future of Musahar girls will change but the

lives of overall Musahar communities will be impacted too.
