Story

“I often went to school hungry as both my parents left for work at dawn. Not just me, even my classmates came to school hungry. But now we eagerly wait to get to school so we can have the meals served there”, says Gaurav, a student of class four, at a rural school in Belur, Karnataka. Countless children from rural areas and slums in bigger cities suffer from immense poverty and acute malnutrition in their formative years.

Recognising the significant impact of hunger and malnutrition on the development and learning abilities of children from low-income families, Swami Sukhabodhananda’s Prasanna Trust has been serving nutritious meals to children at as many as 25 schools.

Help Prasanna Trust touch the lives of thousands of children in over 100 schools. Donate now to transform the lives of these children and the future of the country.

All donations to this fundraising campaign are tax exempted under 80G of the Income Tax Act (India), & 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (USA).

The NGO is making efforts to extend their Anna Daana initiative to 100 schools through which they can reach over 10,000 children. But Swami Sukhabodhananda can not do this without your support.

Transforming lives one meal at a time

The primary earners in rural households are engaged as farm labourers or daily wage earners, and they fail to provide even two proper meals daily for their children. This leaves thousands of children battling hunger and acutely malnourished.

“When children go to school on an empty stomach they are not in a state where they study or learn. What happens to these children is they drop out of school and follow in their parents’ footsteps thus continuing the chain of poverty and destitution,” says Swami Sukhabodhananda.

“We have made it our mission to break this chain by providing children nutritious meals at schools leading not only in improved academic performance but also a significant drop in the school dropout rate. We have observed the performance of children improve remarkably in the 25 schools that we have adopted,” He further adds.

Small contribution towards a big change

Swami Sukhabodhananda and his NGO Prasanna Trust have shortlisted 75 more schools where they can start meal distribution to children from poor families but owing to the lack of funds the Anna Daana program has not been able to start their services here. According to him, “Each meal costs about Rs 20, this amount may appear to be a small amount but to produce 10,000 meals we require 2 lakh each day”.

“I have dedicated my entire life towards the service of people but I can not continue alone. I need your urgent support to reach thousands of more hungry and malnourished children in rural areas. With your support we can the future of generations to come,” prays Swami Sukhabodhananda.
