Story

In busy railway stations across the country, a silent crisis unfolds every day. Children, separated from their families, who land up in stations alone, face unimaginable dangers – abuse, starvation, and the looming threat of exploitation. The lives of thousands of children could have taken a tragic turn, but for the tireless efforts of our NGO partner Railway Children India (RCI) and their dedicated volunteers. Countless children from across 35 major railway stations have been rescued and brought to safety.

RCI is in urgent need of funds to be able to reach many more children before they fall prey to abusers and to bring them to safety. Help save the life and future of vulnerable lost children at railway stations. Donate now

A race against time

“In a year, nearly 1 lakh children go missing and the moment these children arrive (at railway stations) they are under threat. If we don't reach out to them at the earliest, within 15 to 20 minutes, we will lose that child,“ says Lopamudra Mullick, Senior Manager, Railway Children India.

Shockingly, a significant number of children who land at railway stations are never found or reunited with their families. They often fall prey to abusers, facing the grim realities of trafficking, exploitation, and lifelong abuse.

Railway Children India through 24-hour outreach teams vigilantly patrol railway stations, identifying at-risk children and swiftly providing them with safe shelter and care. From short-term accommodations to long-term support, they offer a lifeline to those who have nowhere else to turn. Psychosocial support, medical assistance, and counselling, are just some of the vital services provided to help these children recover from their trauma and find their way home.

Why donate to RCI

Railway Children India cannot tackle this crisis alone. Being a nonprofit organisation dependent on public support their resources are stretched thin. The urgency to reach these vulnerable children, before they are attacked by traffickers, has never been greater.

Lopamudra stresses the crucial role of public support. With annual expenditure to rescue, reunite, and rehabilitate lost children running into lakhs, Railway Children India relies on the generosity of donors to continue their life-saving work. Your contribution can make all the difference, providing thousands of lost children with a chance to return to safety, receive essential care, and rebuild their lives.

Together, we can rewrite the narrative for India's lost children. Your donation can reunite families, offer trauma counselling, ensure proper nutrition, and provide a safe haven from the dangers of the streets. Let's not allow these children to vanish into obscurity.

How Your Donations Help

Your support empowers RCI to extend their reach and enhance their efforts. Here's what your donations contribute to:

  • Immediate Rescue Operations: Swift action to take children out of harm's way, providing them with safe shelter.
  • Critical Care Services: Access to psychosocial support, medical treatment, and counseling to help children recover from trauma.
  • Family Reunification: Efforts to locate and reunite children with their families, restoring their safety net and continuity in their lives.

Despite our achievements, the challenges remain daunting. The scope of our mission to protect every child at risk at railway stations demands constant vigilance and resources. RCI's 24-hour outreach teams are vital, but without sufficient funding, many children may not receive the help they need in time.

We rely on the generosity of donors like you to sustain and expand our life-saving work. With increased funding, we can ensure that more children are saved from the dangers of street life and are given a chance to reclaim their childhood.
