Story

In India’s red-light areas, many women and young girls are trapped in cycles of helplessness, and exploitation. “The saddest thing is that many of these young girls are sent by their own families,” says Sneha Bharti, founder of Purnkuti, a nonprofit working since 2011 to break this cycle. According to her, some girls are as young as 12 or 13. Too young to even understand what’s happening to them, yet they are forced into situations no child should ever face. These women and children do not want to stay in red-light areas, but they simply have no way out. “They blame themselves. They feel stuck. They feel ashamed,” Sneha says. It is for these women and children that Purnkuti exists, offering safety, care, and a second chance.

But, Sneha and Purnkuti depend on public support to continue their critical work. Support the NGO in its mission. Donate now

Purnkuti provides long-term support to women and children who want to leave behind lives of exploitation. Children are given education, emotional care, and the hope of a dignified future. Women are supported through skill development, small business training, and opportunities to work as field staff, many of them survivors themselves. “We train them in packaging, costing, and how to interact with customers. Some have even launched their own businesses,” says Sneha. These empowered women become role models for others still stuck in the cycle, saying, “If I could do it, so can you.” Purnkuti has helped hundreds of such women and children, but Sneha says, “There is so much work still to be done. They will never be able to leave this hell without our help.”

Your support can help Purnkuti reach more women and children still in distress. Your donation will fund education and care for children, provide livelihood training for women, and enable Purnkuti to expand its reach to more red-light areas. It will help transform shame into strength, despair into dignity. Every rupee you give helps someone take a step toward safety and self-reliance. “The ones who’ve broken free are living with dignity today. But many more are still waiting,” says Sneha. Donate today to help a child or woman rewrite her story and leave behind the nightmare of exploitation for good.
