Help stop violence against women & girls in India

Violence against women in India is an issue rooted in societal norms and economic dependence. Discriminatory practices are underlined by laws favoring men.

Inadequate policing and judicial practices deny female victim's proper protection and justice. The problem is aggravated when legal systems do not treat it as a crime, but rather as a "private" family matter.

The factors of violence against women include entrenched unequal power relations, patriarchal mindset, societal norms, economic dependency, lack of education, lack of knowledge and access to redressal mechanisms.

Ongoing efforts of the organization includes individual case work, case counseling, referrals, legal aid, shelter, rehabilitation, filing for maintenance, group counseling, partner counseling, accompany the survivor to institutes etc.

Group work includes gender sensitization training, community awareness programs, street plays, youth awareness programs, training of trainers, community leaders, health workers.

Community intervention: women’s rallies, mass awareness programs at state level, diocesan level, training workshops for directors and key stake holders, preparation of support groups of victims and survivors of violence.

We also conduct several campaigns/workshops like raising awareness at market places, railways, hospitals, educational institutions.

The project envisages increasing women’s access to justice by protecting and promoting the welfare and rights of women and girls who suffer as a result of violence perpetrated against them.

The objective is to support individual women survivors of violence to access justice; change attitudes in communities towards violence against women; and ensure that all women understand their rights; how to claim them and that those who have a responsibility to protect and promote those rights do so.

This will be done by using a number of strategies including counselling, specific awareness raising activities with different community stakeholders.
