Help street vendors affected by COVID-19

THE STORY:

Who are they: 

• Nano-entrepreneurs (vyapaaris) who typically have street side businesses such as tea and food stalls, istriwallas, cobblers, florists, home-based resellers, etc. 
• They are the backbone of our economy and our lives - they’re who you go to for a chai break from office, they iron your clothes, supply your homes with fruits and vegetables, and so much more. 

Why they need your help: 

• The second wave has resulted in yet another lockdown and more restriction on street vendors and small businesses 
• These small business owners have lost their sources of livelihood 
• They are also dealing with COVID themselves or within their family circles 
• They have very little to no savings accumulated since the reopening of businesses after last year’s lockdowns 
• Most struggle to access any state sponsored support in a timely manner

How we intend to use the funds 

• Direct cash transfers of Rs.5000 per family to help them cover food, rent, medical expenses, etc. for the 500 + nano-entrepreneurs we work with directly. 
• These 500 nano-entrepreneurs will be the first recipients of this grant. 
• Should we reach the target for the fundraising campaign - once the situation improves and businesses are allowed to reopen we will help them rebuild their livelihoods

The total fund requirement to support 500 vyapaaris is Rs. 25,00,000/- ( Twenty Five Lakhs Only). We have all the details to make the DBT immediately which include - bank account details and/or UPI IDs.

Our other COVID initiatives:

We are simultaneously working on several other initiatives targeted at:  

• Covid related awareness and resources (availability of medical facilities, awareness about vaccination, etc), 
• Connecting them with medical and non-medical related support via our partner organizations as necessary, 
• Supporting them to re-start their businesses as soon as they are able to.

No contribution is too small - every little bit will go a long way in ensuring our vyapaaris are able to continue meeting their expenses during the lockdown and get a boost to restart their businesses once the lockdown is over.
