Story

Project Sheroes is an initiative that aims to improve the schooling experience of girl children studying in rural government schools by removing barriers they face and equipping them with the necessary resources and knowledge they need to succeed. The provision of safe and clean restrooms inside the school campus is the most important pillar of the campaign.

As India rapidly approaches a $5 trillion economy, imagine a school with 286 students and only one toilet for all of them. Yes, what you read is right this is the condition of government schools in rural coastal areas. It doesn't stop there; also this one toilet has poor facilities for water (perhaps no water at times), cleanliness, and hygiene and is shared by boys, girls, and teachers. The situation is even worse for girl children on their day of periods; they do not have a place to change their napkins during their menstrual periods.

The inadequate toilet, sanitation, and cleanliness facilities in schools result in an increased dropout rate among students. Many girls children don’t attend school for at least 3 days in a month owing to the lack of facilities in the toilets, which leaves a huge dent in their progress.

Mega Foundations is constructing and renovating toilet complexes in rural Tamilnadu government schools. Since the beginning of the financial year, we have constructed/renovated 2O+ restrooms in Tamilnadu. These projects have made a positive impact on the children's well-being and development.

Your support can help girl children continue their education without any hurdles. Donate now.
