Story

Our why

Teaching AI solely through a technical lens is no longer enough. While it’s essential for young people to develop strong technical skills, they also need a grounding in the humanities to critically engage with the technology like AI which is reshaping how we read, write, think, and relate to the world around us.

At THE labs, we introduce children to AI in a way that’s both hands-on and deeply reflective. We don’t just teach how AI works; we teach how to question it – ethically, socially, and philosophically. This balanced approach empowers students to become not just users or builders of technology, but thoughtful participants in shaping its future.

Our programs

THE labs runs two interdisciplinary afterschool programs on AI+Humanities for underserved children in grade 6 to 8 -

  • Reflect on accountability in real-world AI use.

In-depth program - We select 20-25% children who have completed foundations module to go through 200-hour program. In this program children -

  • Understand the difference between AI cognition and human cognition
  • Investigate how AI reflects and reinforces social stereotypes
  • Design against bias, linking technology with justice and fairness
  • Educate their community on misinformation, data collection and manipulation by AI algorithms
