Help us Break The Wall!

Welcome to Project Rachna: Crafting a Sustainable Future in Aarey Colony, Mumbai!

We tend to create several barriers or 'walls' for ourselves. Our indiscriminate use and incorrect disposal of plastic has created one such problem, or a wall. Only 9% of the plastic ever produced has been recycled and the rest of it gets littered or burnt or goes into our dumping grounds. This pollutes our air, water and soil.

Plastic wrappers or sachets which we use so frequently are light weight and hard to recycle and hence have no commercial value. We see them littered everywhere. We need to break free from this plastic pollution. We need to break this 'WALL'. 

We have created this symbolic wall which is made from multilayer milk cartons and multilayer plastic wrappers. It was made by women from an adivasi pada in Aarey colony, Mumbai. They are facing barriers in their own lives. Barriers related to patriarchy, barriers to explore decent means of livelihood, just to name a few. 

We at Green Communities Foundation and Katran wish to empower them by training them on making art installations out of plastic and other waste materials. This will help them gain financial freedom, thus breaking the walls in their own lives and at the same time making you aware of the problems of waste management. 

This wall they have made has 1500 bricks. Help us break this wall. Every Rs. 100/- dislodges one brick from the wall! Your contribution will help us create livelihoods for these women and will be used to mobilize infrastructure and resources for their training.
