Story

Human trafficking is to be taken against your will to be bought, sold and exploited in many different ways: sexual exploitation, forced labour, street crime, domestic servitude or even the sale of organs and human sacrifice. Men, women and children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders.

Trafficking affects every continent and every country: Due to the hidden and illegal nature of human trafficking, gathering statistics on the scale of the problem is difficult. The following statistics may represent an underestimation, but are the most credible and frequently quoted.

* According to UNICEF, nearly 75,000 children go missing in India every year and over half of those children are never seen again.

* Profits from human trafficking are estimated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to be ₹1,01,873 crores annually. However, the estimated amount of money spent on addressing human trafficking is just ₹2,375 crores.

* The 2015 Global Slavery Index estimates that there are 58 lakh people in modern slavery globally.

Oasis India has liberated many women from the bondages of the commercial sex trade, and has given them hope and dignity through counselling and livelihood training. Oasis India works to prevent human trafficking by raising awareness in communities that are vulnerable and strengthening individuals and families so they can be part of and contribute to their community in a positive way. Oasis also supports and helps those whose lives have been ruined to be rebuilt, to know they are of value through residential and community-based projects. Sometimes it is hard to imagine how we can help or make a difference. The problem seems too big

Why do we need your support?

Since anyone can find themselves in a vulnerable situations due to poverty, limited job opportunities, global demand for cheap products and natural disasters, young people and vulnerable communities across the world must be equipped to spot the signs of how they could end up being exploited.

Every conversation raising awareness, every positive input in rebuilding shattered lives makes a difference. Please support our awareness raising program in schools and communities

How will your support help?

Outcome 1: Children and other community members are protected from exploitation and trafficking.

Outcome 2: Community members are inspired to contribute in a constructive way towards positive change in their communities.
