Help us provide freedom & dignity to children with mobility disability through provision of customised wheelchairs

Motivation India is a not-for-profit organisation that works to enhance the quality of life of people with mobility disabilities in India.

According to the Census 2011, 27 million people in India suffer from disabilities, among whom 20% of them have a mobility problem, around 2% of children with disabilities account for the child population in our country. An estimated 75 million people live in need of an appropriate wheelchair but are unable to afford one. One-size-fits-all wheelchairs, widely in use, offer incorrect posture and are difficult to use. There is a lack of awareness of the extent of damage that a poor designed wheelchair can inflict on health even in a 3-month period, leave alone lifetime users.

Without mobility these children are left housebound due to lack of a basic appropriate wheelchair – unable to attend school, unable to socialise and often unable to even attend medical appointments. Their families are tired and exhausted with their mobility problems. Imagine the children are just at home, lying on bed/floor.

Providing an appropriate customised wheelchair as per the WHO standards will not only give them mobility with freedom and independence but empowers them to live their life with the dignity that they deserve. They have the right to quality and appropriate assistive devices,services and we are late in reaching them as service providers.
