Rahul was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP) at the age of just 19. His condition was managed till 2017, when Rahul suffered a paralytic attack. His doctors told the family there was no other option besides a transplant. In shock and frightened, Rahul’s family nonetheless stood by him and waited for a viable organ.
Rahul was fortunate enough to receive the transplant in 2018 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Rahul now leads a fit and active life. For Rahul, his transplant and the sacrifice of the donor’s family are something that he must honor by living to the fullest. Rahul’s dream is to represent India at the World Transplant Games, and he hopes to make both his donor and his country proud.
ORGAN India, an initiative of the Parashar Foundation, have been appointed the Team Managers for Team India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden, Germany. We are already preparing to take the largest Indian contingent ever at the World Transplant Games, get them the best training and coaching available, BUT WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO ENSURE THAT RAHUL IS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE!
Over the past few months, Rahul has been working on his fitness and has been training hard to participate in the World Transplant Games. We aim to support Rahul by covering the costs of his travel, accommodation, training and support in the form of coaches, physiotherapists, and administrators."The total cost of Rahul's participation will be around 2.5 lakhs'.
India’s Organ Donation Rate is amongst the lowest in the world, largely due to a lack of awareness of organ donation, and myths surrounding life after transplant. Rahul’s participation in the upcoming Games gives hope to all those who have received an organ transplant and will encourage more people to pledge to be organ donors.
We hope to create an impact in two ways.
One: for Rahul to represent India and show that not only is there a life after a heart transplant, but there can also be a fit, active and healthy life.
Two: To raise awareness throughout the country on organ donation and transplant on the lives that can not only be saved but lived to the fullest. The people who can be saved if everyone pledges to donate their organs can live long fruitful lives and go on not only to become great athletes and live their lives but can go on to do great things.
