When a child from an underprivileged background sees another playing with toys they can only dream of, it's not envy they feel - it's profound grief. "Because the child may never be able to play with those toys, and they know that," explains Vidyun Goel, founder of The Toy Bank. This reality is what drives her organisation, The Toy Bank, to turn society's discarded playthings into toys of hope, learning and joy for India's most vulnerable children.

What began as Vidyun's compassionate vision has grown into a national movement that has already touched 500,000 young lives. “I was sixteen when I started The Toy Bank. I was inspired by my father who used to collect toys from my extended family and distribute them among underprivileged kids. The happiness I saw on their faces was my biggest motivation,” Vidyun says.

What The Toy Bank has achieved so far

The Toy Bank's innovative model collects used toys from privileged children across private schools, carefully refurbishes them, and transforms them into vibrant toy libraries and play centers. 

These spaces do far more than entertain. They become classrooms of imagination where children develop crucial math skills, social abilities and cognitive growth through play. "Toys aren't luxuries; they're tools for growth," Vidyun emphasises, highlighting how a simple doll or puzzle can unlock a child's potential.

The numbers speak volumes: 15 lakh toys given new purpose, 5,500 toy libraries created, 7 dedicated play rooms established across the country. Yet for every child reached, countless more wait for their first toy.
