Story

COVID-19 has taken a massive toll on India's unorganized sector. Daily wagers based in remote areas, including resettlement colonies and slums, are struggling to earn their daily living due to the imposed lockdown. Since April 2021, this lockdown has been extended every week in Delhi.

  • Daily wagers are unemployed as their employers have either halted the work or reduced the onsite workforce to meet Government guidelines of the lockdown.
  • Urban slums in Delhi consist of many families wherein one daily wage worker earns for the living of as many as 8 members. They are unable to support their households.
  • The pressure on their lives to earn the daily bread for the family, while ensuring the education of their children and catering to other day-to-day expenses, is unprecedented and unimaginable.

We at Restless Development India work with young people aged 18-30 to help them lead in solving challenges in their communities.

We need your support to raise funds for daily wagers, especially women, based in urban slums of South Delhi; to distribute a total of 500 ration kits, which also include sanitary items and basic medicines.

Each kit consists of 18 food items (including wheat, rice, oil, dal, spices) and 7 sanitation items (including sanitary napkins, soaps, disinfectants) to help them sustain for a month. One such kit costs 1,000/- INR. Our aim is to reach 500 families by June 15.

  • Dakshinpuri, Sanjay Camp, Sangam Vihar, Madangir and Sunder Nagri are remote urban slums in South Delhi, where most families are run by daily wagers. Our volunteers based in these communities are identifying the neediest families and distributing these kits to them.
  • Upon covering South Delhi, we aim to extend support to rural pockets, to support the survival of those in Munger (Bihar), Pakur (Jharkhand) and Ganjam (Odisha).
  • With the donations, we aim to reach 500+ families across the urban slums and resettlement colonies of South Delhi and provide them with the kits which can help them sustain themselves for a month.
  • Our volunteers and community members from these communities are identifying the neediest families, and sharing the kits with them on priority.
  • If needed, we can connect the donor with the community member to help them understand the issue right from the area of intervention. We can also provide the donor with images of people receiving the kits, bills or any other request.
  • For 30+ years, we've been working in communities across different states of India, and around the world to help young people lead in solving challenges in their communities.
