Help young women from Uttar Pradesh kickstart their freelance career

Pooja is a 20-year-old aspiring photographer from Prayagraj. She is currently pursuing her BCom. from Ishwar Saran Degree College. She has long had a passion for photography but didn’t know how to pursue it as a profession. Stuck at home during the peak of the pandemic, she heard about Swarambh and thought it would be a good way to explore photography as a career.

Swarambh is a new program from Medha designed to support and accelerate the growing freelance ecosystem in smaller cities and towns across the heartland.

The experiential program follows three stages:

1.      Gyan - a thirty-hour orientation to get the basics of freelancing – portfolio building, online marketing, financial management, client development, etc.

2.      Kaushal - a six-week mentorship engagement to prepare for the market - set goals, develop contacts, work on a pitch, build technical skills, etc.

3.      Kshamta – live ‘freelance’ projects to jump-start the journey - build a portfolio, earn your first income, develop client contacts, refine your pitch and marketing strategy.

Armed with her Nikon D34 and tripod, Pooja is on her way to building a successful photography business. She has a portfolio of nine projects and is currently working on two paid projects, earning INR 8-10k a month.
