Holistic Child Development Project for Underprivileged Children

Children are considered to be our future generation and pre-planned investment in children will surely yield better outcome in days to come. However, the survey says that India is home to over 30% of almost 385 million children living in poverty, the highest in South Asia (Source: Unicef). Therefore, it is needless to say that we need to focus more on the development of children. It should not only be educational development, but an all-round development is needed to develop today’s children to become a responsible citizen of the nation. In light of this context, Anugraha Foundation is working among the poor children in South Bengal in some of the remote areas. These children do not have any opportunities to study as they are coming from very poor background. Sometimes their parents leave them to go for their work in the early morning and they reach home late at night. The children are neglected and sometimes they are the victims of different forms of abuse and also, they are trafficked. Therefore, it is our responsibility to see that these children are loved, cared and protected. We need to stand up to fight against the deadliest lie of the poverty.

Anugraha Foundation is committed to promote child-centric holistic development of disadvantaged or vulnerable children, their families and communities with equal opportunities ensuring life of a respectful citizen of the nation. In this context, Anugraha Foundation has focused child centric development initiative to build future generation of our society by providing quality education to marginalized and needy children. In this process, life skill education, teaching on moral values, skill development cum technical education of children have been designed to ensure holistic development of every child of project area in collaboration of partners and resource organization. This is an ongoing initiative to bring needy and excluded community into the mainstream of integrated development. We focus on four-fold areas of holistic development:

• Physical – to develop a child physically by teaching them good health practices and by providing proper nourishment for the body.
• Economical – to develop a child economically by providing basic education and skills to become economically self-supporting.
• Moral – to develop a child morally by nurturing them to demonstrate their commitment according to their moral ethics and beliefs.
• Socio-emotional – to develop a child socio-emotionally by teaching them healthy and compassionate manner while interacting with people.

The vision of Anugraha Foundation is to witness a sensitized community where every member be it male or female gets access to equal opportunities to become self-sufficient and as a result the community as a whole be empowered enough to lead a fulfilled and quality life with respect and dignity. In this context, children play a vital role in the development of the family. The teachings imparted among the children not only stays with them but also reaches their family members as well. Therefore, we want to see a developed community by helping the children grow in all the four-fold areas and eventually we want to see a developed community out from the shekels of poverty. Anugraha Foundation is committed to provide the best support and development within our capacity to ensure every child is able to access better education for their cognitive development and economical betterment, better health practices for their physical development and wellbeing and a better society to live with dignity.
