Story

Some 20 million low-birth-weight (LBW) babies are born each year, because of either preterm birth or impaired prenatal growth, mostly in less developed countries. They contribute substantially to a high rate of neonatal mortality whose frequency and distribution correspond to those of poverty.(Geneva, World Health Organization, 1992 (WHO/ MCH/92.2). Levels and patterns of intrauterine growth retardation in developing countries. European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1998, 52(Suppl.1):S5-S15). 70% of total infant deaths and more than half of under-five deaths fall in the neonatal period.

  • To spread awareness regarding Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)
  • To encourage utilization of KMC among eligible candidates
  • To support mothers to use KMC
  • To supervise Mothers doing KMC
  • Reduce the rate of hypothermia among low birth weight babies
  • Reduce neonatal mortality due to hypothermia and its complications

Project Updates

Project Initiation at Anand Center
Home Based Kangaroo Mother Care initiated at Anand center. TF has identified 32 villages at Anand center and volunteer health workers were enrolled to initiate the project. TF had conducted initial training of 32 volunteers at Anand center and orient them about all program activities,. Consent for their enrollment were taken. Project was officially launched from 1st of July 2021 and activities were taken up as pilot basis.
