Introductions:

 The senior citizens are important part of our population. The retired life of such citizens should be in good health &well managed. Due to developing medical facilities &awareness in healthier lifestyle,the average life span of Indian citizens is improving. Now it is around 65-75+ years.

 The need of the project:

 The ever increasing urbanization & rush of the people towards city life has resulted in decrease in united families & increase in nuclear families. To maintain the lifestyle the male &female members in family are forced to work and fulfill the economic essentials. As the apartment system is on rise, the elderly people are the most affected strata of the society.

 The senior citizens have limited mobility. They need some physical &economic assistance. As family members can’t stay long with them due to job and business, theyface many difficulties. The trained health care assistants for elderly people are not also easily available. More over the trained assistants or workers are very expensive. In such scenario there is definite need to make available stay, food, and medical help under one roof for senior citizens.

Objectives of the project:

 1. To make available best health care (Geriatric Care) facilities to senior citizens.

2. To set up comprehensive care center for the aged under one roof

RUGNA SEVA PRAKALP (RSP) is a social organization established in 1991 & is working in the fields of health, environment protection, empowering weaker sections of the society and rural development. Our trust has participated in helping the society in different kind of calamities like earthquakes, floods, famine and recently covid-19 pandemic.

Proposed Project:

Miraj a town in the Sangli District of Maharashtra state is a well-known “Medical Center” since 150 Years. Dr. Wanless, an American Missionary doctor established the Miraj Medical Center (Mission Hospital) in the year 1894. A hospital for treatment of Leprosy and Chest diseases along with a TB Sanitorium and Leprosy rehabilitation center was also established by the Missionaries.

Miraj Medical Collage started in the year 1962. There after many General Hospitals, Multi-Speciality and super speciality Hospitals, Diagnostic centers, Special Therapy Centers etc., were established in the city. These Hospitals are providing health care service to patients from various parts of Maharashtra and nearby Karnataka State. 

Though there is no dearth for medical treatment facilities, there is tremendous need for Geriatric Care / Hospice Care facilities.

Nowadays society has moved away from the Joint family system to a smaller Nuclear family system. There is a significant migration of the younger generation for the purpose of employment and other engagements. This migration is not limited to just going to the metros or bigger cities but many times abroad also. We also see that many times both husband and wife are employed. The living / residential space available to the family is also small and inadequate in the big cities where they are working. All these factors put together have created many problems for Senior Citizens.

For addressing their issues, we are planning a Comprehensive Care Center for the aged (This will be an Old Age Home & Hospice Care Center) at Miraj.

The Proposed facilities are counseling center, Day Care Center, Short Stay Home, Long Stay Home (Old age home) Hospice care center. 

 Proposed Site of the project:

RSP has its own land to build and operate this project. In the year 1997 Government of Maharashtra allotted land to us in Miraj City S. R. No 8/B/1 Area 2464.10 SQM for development of multi activity campus. We developed the land and construction of first building is completed, which includes office, meeting room, training halls, yoga hall and fitness gym.

 This land is near Adarsh housing society on Pandharpur road. Currently various activities are going on like trust office, gym / fitness center & yoga center, training center facility& pre-primary school. The required space for proposed old age home is amidst decent locality & is very near to Government Medical College and Civil hospital, Miraj.Proposed building will be multistoried. Total construction is 1116.45 SQM.

We have prepared Building Plan by our architect as per requirement of the proposed project. All amenities are in the proposed building including provision of lift and fire security instruments. The proposed building is multi story building including ground, first and second floor in the same. Each floor built up area is 372.15 SQM total proposed built up area is 1116.45 SQM. The proposed building plan is first version and if required alteration is possible.

Ground Floor Facilities – Reception,administration office, kitchen, storage room,dining hall, living room,washrooms, auditorium and counseling department.

First FloorFacilities –Medical facilities like general male/female wards,, nursing stations, counseling room, attendant room, pantry with service lift,washrooms,etc.

Second Floor Facilities–Residential facilities for ambulatory & non ambulatory senior citizens / patients medical and administrative staff room, private rooms, leisure room, pantry with service lift washrooms,libraryetc.

In the first phase, the facilities sufficient for around 35-40 individuals will be completed.

 Activities under Comprehensive Care Center for the Aged

 Counseling center:

In old age due to ill health, loss of life partner, or some family disturbances, the feeling of insecurity, depression, and loneliness can be seen. In many old people some emotional, mental& psychological issues can arise which require expert medical & health care. We will try to address this issue through counseling and related medical care.

Day care center:

The day care center will be non-residential. This will be useful for the citizens who are physically fit to travel and to do things on their own.This facility will be available from morning to evening with inclusion of tea, breakfast and lunch. We will provide entertainment facility which will be useful for relaxation, pastime for the senior citizens. They can spend a good time with the same age people with shared interests & topics for discussions. This center will be equipped with music systems, library and indoor games etc.

Short stay home:

Everyone needs a break. A vacation, a sabbatical or a short break from the regular routine. This respite helps us to take time to rejuvenate and revive ourselves for the years ahead. Elders need this more than anyone else as they are fatigued due to age and get easily stressed. Seniors can opt for a short stay at assisted living facilities to rest and relax in a changed environment. Athulya Living offers short term stay for seniors with skilled nursing care and affordable amenities.

This facility will be useful for the citizens when a short term stay is required. This facility will be useful in situations like home repairs, unavailability of younger family members for some time or curable disease conditions. In this category, the facilities of stay, food, medical care will be included.

 Long stay home/Old age Home

A retirement home – sometimes called an old people's home or old age home, although old people's home can also refer to a nursing home – is a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly. Typically, each person or couple in the home has anprivate rooms.

This facility will be on offer to senior citizens who require stay, food, medical care facilities for more than one month. This facility can also be availed for permanent residence or terminal care for the elderly people.

 Hospice Care

Hospice care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life. At some point, it may not be possible to cure a serious illness, or a patient may choose not to undergo certain treatments. Hospice is designed for this situation.Increasingly, people are choosing hospice care at the end of life. The patient beginning hospice care understands that his or her illness is not responding to medical attempts to cure it or to slow the disease's progress.

Like palliative care, hospice provides comprehensive comfort care as well as support for the family, but,in hospice, attempts to cure the person's illness are stopped. Hospice is provided for a person with a terminal illness whose doctor believes he or she has six months or less to live if the illness runs its natural course.

Hospice care brings together a team of people with special skills, among them nurses, doctors, social workers, spiritual advisors, and trained volunteers. Everyone works together with the person who is dying, the caregiver, and/or the family to provide the medical, emotional, and spiritual support needed.

Staff requiredfor center: 

For smooth implementation of the center there is need of various staff. Some staff is under skilled category and some staff is under semi skilled category. Tentative The list of required as under,

Volunteers backup:

We have our own volunteer’s network for supporting our activities. They are well connected with our organization for any type of supporting work. We have utilized this network in many activities for routine work & in calamities like flood and recent Covid-19 Pandemic condition. Also some experts from various fields are associated with us. These experts are guiding force for planning and implementation ofvarious programs.

Social Connect:

 We are associated with other voluntary organizations from the area and also with youth groups, women’s groups. We are associated with Senior citizen forum which is working more than 25 years. We have jointly implemented various programs.

Budgetary Items:

We have listed below the expenditure items list for the center. We have roughly prepared this list to understand the expenditure heads. The major component is under immovable category is construction of the building which is required in the first phase of the proposed project. Other expenditure items are under fixed assets or movable items.
