Story

Update on Shubham's health:

The New Year has ushered in a fresh lease of life for Shubham. After weeks of staying on life and intensive care support, Shubham now has a new heart, courtesy a successful heart transplant at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai. Shubham's health is currently stable but he needs to remain in intensive care under close observation for at least another week.

It's been three months since Shubham was rushed to hospital after a heart attack. He has been on a ventilator, has had a bypass surgery, and was on a heart machine till the surgery in late December. The hospital bill is now close to ₹80 lakh. The family is very grateful to all supporters who have generously helped in their hour of distress. Now they are looking to you to cover the remaining distance so they can finally take their son home.

Shubham's story: Before the heart transplant

“I was dreaming of a successful life ahead of me, winning championships and representing my country. Little did I know that my heart will not support my dreams. Having undergone a heart-attack, bypass surgery, being on ventilator support, today my heart is 80% damaged". "The only thing that can save my life is a heart transplant that would cost ₹50 Lakhs. The hospital needs us to deposit a guarantee amount of at least Rs 15 lakhs to start my treatment and if we fail to deposit this amount, my chances of survival will be ruined. With a daily income of hardly Rs 300, my parents can barely do anything. It is my humble request to you to help us in this moment of crisis. Please contribute whatever you can to save my life.” - Shubham Agarwal, 19-year-old weightlifter.

Heart attack at 19

Son of a small mobile recharge shop owner with a meagre income, 19-year-old Shubham is the future of his family. Days after his grandmother’s death, Shubham suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Within a couple of days his condition deteriorated, he was put on ventilator support and had to undergo a bypass surgery. His kidneys too started failing. Even though his condition has stabilised a bit now, Shubham’s heart is 80% damaged. He is bedridden and can only speak in whispers. Only a heart transplant worth Rs 50 lakhs can save his life. With very little family income and no savings to fall back on, Shubham’s parents need your support to save their son.

Why did this happen to our son?

"All our hopes of breaking out of poverty, are pinned on our son. We don’t know why this is happening to him. He is only 19 and has his entire life ahead of him. He is yet to complete his studies and all he dreams of is representing his country at a global championship of weightlifting. It is not fair that we as parents have to stand and see our son struggling to breathe, every day. We are losing him bit by bit. Help us wake up from this nightmare. With no means to provide him with the expensive heart transplant, we fear that our helplessness and lack of funds will cost us our dear son’s life. Please don’t ignore these desperate cries of two helpless parents. Stand by us today to help us save our son’s life. Only you can make it happen." - Krishna and Archana Agarwal, parents of Shubham.

The target includes the cost of Shubham's treatment and the heart transplant, along with the charges incurred to foster public outreach and maximise the reach-out for this fundraiser.
