Story

The official number of PwDs in the Jodhpur district is about 25000. They suffer from various types of disabilities including neurological, hearing, speech or locomotive which require rehabilitation therapy. Jodhpur District is surrounded by districts of Nagaur, Ajmer, Pali and Jaisalmer and PwDs of these districts may also seek the support of the excellent medical and rehabilitation therapy for neuro and spine disorders provided by IHIF. Currently, IHIF is probably the only NGO undertaking neuro-rehab of such quality in Jodhpur and neighbouring districts through its centrally located Centre. Most of the existing Physio Centres are under-equipped and specialized Centres are deficient all over India. Further, most of them are profit centres and not charitable.

More importantly, family negligence is a major issue which victims of traumatic injuries have to face. IHIF intends to provide support to at least some of them and also guide caregivers and families to be more considerate to the unfortunate victims.

India has over 30 million disabled people who need some form of Rehabilitation. To this, over half a million are added every year. The Rehabilitation Services in India are very few and highly expensive. The weaker sections have practically nowhere to go and suffer in silence at home. The Indian Head Injury Foundation through its three neuro-rehabilitation centres has taken on the task of providing support and rehab to underprivileged Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Delhi, Jodhpur and Patna. CSR or philanthropic assistance is being sought to fund the fully functional and well-equipped Centre in Jodhpur.

At present we are providing rehabilitation to 30-40 patients daily. With the sponsorship of the Centre

At present we are providing rehabilitation to 30-40 patients daily. With the sponsorship of the Centre, we could provide support to at least 40-50 needy victims on a daily basis in the covered geographical area. This will be a boon in terms of rehabilitation to the victims from the weaker sections.

In addition, the Centres will have an impact on families as regards their attitude to such victims and improve the provision of home-based rehab and quality of life for PwDs.

Also, we will continue providing online rehab services and counselling to persons with disabilities to keep their morale high and encourage them to be independent while at home. With CSR support we expect to provide 8000 supervised sessions to People with Disabilities (PwDs) in FY 22-23. The aim is that these unfortunate victims of injuries and neglect are able to undertake activities of daily living independently and also try and seek employment.
