Story

One of the core challenges of the skilling industry is communication skills of the youth who are getting prepared to enter the workforce. For underprivileged girls there is a greater challenge- Their overall living conditions and limited opportunities contribute to lack of skills to communicate confidently. Communication is a skill which involves systematic and continuous process of speaking, listening and understanding.

The face of modern India has changed drastically. Due to globalization, many companies are expanding all over the world. Hence, English communication, (speaking, listening and understanding) is an acknowledged passport to improve ones education and employment opportunities.

At NIIT Foundation we have observed that many of our students cannot speak well and communicate effectively. Speaking, listening and ability to understand verbal and nonverbal cues are the skills that are must when the students actually face the professional world, when start working. It is therefore critical to skill students before placing them on jobs.

NIIT Foundation trains youth from underserved communities. Even after training, there are students that struggle in getting jobs or struggle while working due to lack of English proficiency. As part of this project, NIIT Foundation will train girls from underserved communities in Spoken English Course, which will improve their employability.

Course Duration: 2.5 Months for each level

Target Beneficiaries: Girls from underserved communities, between 14 to 27 years of age

Certification: Certificate course in English

Impact Numbers: Train 2000 girls from underserved communities in India

Learning Outcome: The program will help students grasp the basics of the English language and by the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Participate with enthusiasm and confidence in a variety of shared language experiences
  • Follow two step directions
  • Listen attentively to a variety of oral texts for enjoyment and information
  • Answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions related to the oral text in words and phrases
  • Make connections between oral texts and prior knowledge and experiences
  • Articulate clearly and correctly
  • Adapt /Modify speech according to the listener and the situation
  • Share likes and dislikes, feelings and emotions
  • Give oral commands
