Story

4 villages in Thiruparankundram Block are rated as one of the poorest Panchayat in the Madurai district. The Government of Tamil Nadu has ranked as the highest priority for poverty alleviation. The area of Transport facilities, market access, education and basic infrastructure, health care and social services are all minimal. Poverty causes Widows due to husbands /male relatives/members spending money abundantly on alcohol consumption and every day spending money nearly 99 % with TASMAC (Tamil Nadu Government Alchohol shop) and other unproductive expenses. So, they can contribute less income to a family which is insufficient to run the family. As a result, unfortunately nearly all men expired due to over-drinking alcohol over percentage lastly so these widows and Widows are strained to go to work for taking care of the family and schooling the children after their husbands died at a young age. In working places, Widows are ill-treated on sexual background; but due to their inability and economic constraints, they are tolerated to retain the work for looking after the family. In short, the weakness of poor condition has been used as a strength of the employers

The proposed project will provide goats of a local good breed to 50 poor marginalized widows in selected villages of Thiruparankundram block for improving their livelihood choices so that they increase their living standards. This gives them the ability to begin raising a small herd of goats to provide them with a source of income. Goats can be a source of ready cash for the widow during emergencies.

  •  50 marginalized widow women got a respectable livelihood
  •  50 widows looked after the families by earning sustainable income through sale of goats
  •  Children of the widows are well educated
  •  Widows became profitable business entrepreneurs
