At Romila Palliative Care (RPC), we're not just a center; we're a haven of hope for those battling life-limiting illnesses. Founded by Dr. Armida Fernandez, our mission is rooted in the profound loss of her beloved daughter Romila to cancer. We are driven by the belief that every patient and their family deserves compassion, support, and dignity throughout their journey. We are also a part of Saath Saath National Helpline.
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families who are facing problems associated with life-threatening illness. It prevents and relieves suffering through the early identification, correct assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, whether physical, psychosocial or spiritual. We believe that healing begins at home. Our team conducts free home visits, ensuring that each patient experiences minimal pain and is cared for with the utmost dignity.
Our dedicated team, including doctors, nurses, counselors, dieticians, and physiotherapists, collaborates seamlessly to uplift families in their journey. At our center in Bandra, in addition to our core palliative care services, we provide professional physiotherapy to enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for our patients. Weekly dementia group activities for engaging sessions designed to enhance memory and social connections.
We understand that the journey is shared. Our support extends beyond the patient, offering families medical, psychosocial, and spiritual guidance to navigate their loved one's illness with confidence.
SNEHA spearheads a network of palliative care providers, collaborating with the National Health Mission to work with public health facilities across Maharashtra to ensure that palliative care reaches the ones who need it the most.
Over the last 5 years (2017-22) of the Romila Palliative Care center, we have -
Mrs. Ruby first visited Romila Palliative Care (RPC) while she was undergoing her first chemotherapy. She was very insecure, troubled and feared for her two children, who were mentally challenged at varying levels, and confided in our counselor about her family dynamics. The counselor discussed possible options that Ruby could opt for and also counseled both her children on departing from their loving mother. It was Ruby's wish that her son be put into a home.
The team encouraged her to get admitted at Shanti Avedna hospice where she had a peaceful death two months after visiting RPC.
During one of the bereavement counseling sessions the team realized that Ruby's daughter was burnt out taking care of her brother. She received regular counseling at RPC. After continuous follow up meetings with their relatives and exploring various NGOs, the counselor finally found a home in Goa where Ruby's son was admitted in a couple of months. The team was happy to fulfill the last wishes of the patient.
Celebrate 5 years of compassion with Romila Palliative Care. Join us in sowing seeds of hope for those facing life-limiting illnesses. Your generous support nurtures hearts and creates a legacy of warmth. Inspired by Dr. Armida Fernandez, RPC stands as a beacon of love. Together, let's make this season one of gratitude and healing.
