Social distancing is necessary to help limit the spread of the virus, but for the economically weaker sections of society the food insecurity is a much more serious issue than the disease itself as typically they cannot afford to stock up on food supplies. In addition, malnutrition increases vulnerability to disease.
Food supply to :
• refugees and migrants
• wage workers
• those with inflexible jobs, and
• outstation students without families who depended on local roadside restaurants
• people with pre-existing medical conditions
• older adults
• individuals experiencing homelessness
Food for Life’s largest programs are in India. Food for Life volunteers also respond to natural disasters, bringing food and hope into the lives of people affected by events. During COVID-19, ISKCON Delhi rose to the challenge by distributing 5 Lacs+ meals everyday to daily wagers to help the government in their struggle to provide access to healthy food and adequate nutrition on a daily basis to the economically vulnerable.
Since the lockdown, ISKCON Delhi have served more than 2.5+ Crore meals across Delhi & still going on.
