Story

We have come a long way in taking a stand against injustice when we can see it. But unfortunately, millions of voiceless farmed animals are still being subjected to inhuman cruelty in illegal dairies, slaughterhouses, etc. Their plight has been hidden from us, and their cries for help are muffled. These animals are stifled in dingy sheds and housed in abysmal conditions. They are injected with harmful substances to extract milk, mistreated, and finally transported to illegal slaughterhouses when they are of no use.

IAF India Animal Foundation, along with other NGOs, have resolved to ease the pain of these farmed animals. They have provided safe shelter, food and medical care to ill and injured farmed animals rescued from life-threatening conditions. Besides these, the NGOs are also actively involved in capacity building and advocacy.

With more and more ill and injured animals being brought in each day, these NGOs are in urgent need of funds to care for helpless farm animals. Your contribution can ensure the end of abuse for hundreds of animals trapped in illegal farms. Donate now.

Unheard cries of voiceless farm animals

“In illegal dairy units, animals are beaten, abused, and their bones are broken. If they are ill or injured, they are never given treatment. They are tied up in small spaces. Where there is space barely for 10, they keep 20, 30 or even 40 buffaloes. And these animals spend their entire life in these painful conditions", says Dr Asher Jesudoss, Director, People For Animals (PFA) Public Policy Foundation, who has been fighting to save farmed animals from torture.

According to him, several crude, illegal and violent methods/practices are used to extract milk from cattle, which leave thousands with illnesses. “Labour pains are induced in cattle by injecting drugs; they are made to forcefully let down milk twice a day unnaturally. Their calves are pulled away and are not allowed to drink their mother’s milk. They are tied separately and later killed or left to die", he adds.

With your support, Asher and the NGOs fighting this battle can provide immediate medical care to animals who would otherwise meet a slow and painful end. Build capacity, work with governments to do policy work and spread awareness. Donate now.

Urgent need for donations

“We are trying to give these animals a good life, but we are dependent on public support to meet the expenses on food, transport, shelter, and medication for these animals. I humbly request each one to come forward, and please donate whatever you can so we can give these farm animals a life away from abuse and suffering,” says Asher.

Dear donors, thanks to your generous contributions. Your support has enabled us to create lasting change for animals in need. Check out the milestones we have achieved so far:

➜ Cattle Welfare in Delhi

  • Visited 148 dairies and 3 unauthorized dairy colonies.
  • Documented conditions of over 10,000 cattle, including those abandoned or in unlicensed dairies.
  • Highlighted the issue to authorities, resulting in the formation of a multi-departmental committee to develop an SOP to address the issue of abandoned and unlicensed cattle.
  • This intervention has the potential to impact at least 20,000 cattle.

Combating Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)

  • Carried out detailed research and analyzed the factors contributing to LSD. Around 32,00,000 cattle in India have been affected by LSD between 2019 and February 2023.
  • Accordingly, a comprehensive SOP was developed focusing on vector control, hygiene protocols, and cattle health monitoring to reduce the likelihood of LSD.
  • Proposed the use of Unique Identification Numbers (UINs) on cattle, allowing the State Animal Husbandry Department to trace cattle status and health.

➜ Improving Pig Farms in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana

  • Conducted on-site visits to 53 pig farms (31 in UP and 22 in Haryana).
  • Found pigs living in poor conditions, with inadequate ventilation and hygiene.
  • Compiled reports that led State Pollution Control Boards to issue directives for improving conditions, impacting over 7,000 pigs.

➜ Delhi-Specific Handbook on Animal Protection Laws

  • Initiated the development of a handbook tailored to Delhi's specific needs.
  • Included important statutes, court citations, and best practices for enforcing animal protection laws.
  • The handbook will be distributed across 18 District Headquarters, the Delhi Police Academy, and Special Branch Offices, potentially impacting over 3,22,000 cattle, 76,346 pigs, and 1,37,301 other animals.
