Story

"20 workers lose their hands or fingers every day", just in Gurgaon’s manufacturing sector.

Most of them belong to our country’s most vulnerable sections of society:

  • Vulnerable: 90% of these injured workers are migrants, who were especially vulnerable during times of COVID-19
  • Precarious: 65% are on contract without certainty of any future income
  • Young: 50% are under the age of 30 years

If we could help these workers after their injuries and prevent these accidents from happening, we would not only help lakhs of Indian migrant workers, but also help improve India's labor productivity which is currently one of the lowest (135th) in the world.

  1. To assist thousands of injured workers to improve their post-accident life with mainly healthcare and compensations. (Already assisted 3200+ injured workers and helped obtain rupees 23+ crore value of compensations from the government- ESIC.)
  2. To promote safer working conditions in the Indian manufacturing sector, which would also improve India's labor-productivity, one of the lowest in the world (rank 135). Our specific focus is on the auto-sector (90% of workers assisted by us) which employs 1+ crore workers and where most of the crush injuries happen.
  3. To help improve Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)’s healthcare and compensation processes for 14 crore workers and their families who depend on it. For example, we have recently helped improve their COVID-related unemployment scheme, which has a budget of Rs 6,500 crores.
  4. Increase awareness regarding safer working practices and ESIC benefits among the workers.
  5. Raise public awareness of these issues, confronting injured manufacturing workers.

Our other exemplary work

  1. During Covid first lock-down in 2020, we also distributed 450,000+ adult food rations, 25,000+ masks and helped 250+ migrants get to their homes.
  2. During second wave in 2021, we have supplied one oxygen plant and more than almost a 100 oxygen cylinders to ESIC hospitals in Bhar, Karnataka and Delhi.

For more details please read our blog : COVID Wave 2 worker-relief actions; and Safe in India wins ESIC national award – thank you donors!

As part of the Give India incentive scheme named "The GiveIndia Fundraising Challenge 2022" in operation between 1st February and 30th March 2022, your donations stand to receive match-funding from 5% - 22% depending on total funds raised. So please donate generously to create the following impact:

  1. Every donation of 10,000 rupees helps us fund operations to assist 20 workers with their healthcare and/or with 100,000 rupees value of compensation for an injured worker.
  2. We engage with the government and the auto-sector to improve safety in their supply chain. We aim to train 1,000+ workers in safety protocols in FY21-22 and start a number of projects with the industry and the government.
  3. We engage with ESIC to improve their services to workers and their families. It is as a result of our advocacy efforts that ESIC has already issued more than 10 national notifications. We aim to help improve ESIC processes to enable disbursement of Rs100+ crore under the COVID-19 unemployment scheme.
  4. 10,000+ workers have already been made aware of their ESIC healthcare and safety entitlements. We aim to increase this figure to 20,000+ in 2021-22.
