Our NGO partner ISKCON Food Relief Foundation with its vision to nurture a hunger-free India has been on a mission to ease the suffering of lakhs of people for whom a nutritious meal is still a luxury. “In India there continues to exist extreme poverty. So many families find it difficult to get even one meal a day”, says Madhurya Shroff, one of the senior members of the nonprofit, while shedding light on the grim reality.

ISKCON’s fight against hunger 

“The founder of ISKCON Srila Prabhupadaji, once saw children and dogs fighting for a piece of roti. And he was pained to see this and it was then that he instructed his followers to start distributing food to the needy and especially children. It is through his guidance that we started our food relief programme” says Madhurya. According to her, “In a large number of houses earnings are extremely low. Children of rickshaw pullers, vegetable vendors, children of domestic workers, children from tribal areas, are, even to this day, not getting even one proper meal a day”. 

ISKCON Food Relief Foundation which stands as one of the best NGOs in India fighting hunger has to date distributed over 6 billion meals. 

However, the rising cost of food grains, vegetables and fuel, etc has made it difficult for the non profit to continue its relief efforts. The NGOs industrial kitchens are equipped with the most modern machinery to produce thousands of meals each day. But owing to a shortage of funds and a steady rise in costs of raw materials, ISKCON Food Relief Foundation is finding it difficult to keep its operations going. 

“Help us serve even more children, even more families in need. Because these families would otherwise not be able to provide even a single healthy meal” pleads Madhurya.
