In many of the villages where EVA works, boys gather on the playground after school.
Girls are much less likely to be there.
There may be no girls' team. No equipment. No coach. No regular time that belongs to them.
A brother finishes school and goes out to play. His sister may return home to chores, younger siblings and household work.
Slowly, she stops asking.
But the desire to play does not disappear.

What happens when a village finally gives her a turn to play sports?
Last year, in a village called Kalahatoli in Jharkhand, EVA Foundation's Reshma ji organised something that had never happened there before: a sports tournament just for the village's women. Kabaddi, football, a spoon race, musical chairs — women who spend every day cooking, cleaning, and working the fields came out and played, many of them for the first time since they were girls themselves.
One of them said it afterwards:
"Kaam toh har roz karna hai, lekin aaj humein bahut achha lag raha hai. Aaj humne apne liye khela"
("We do this work every day, but today felt wonderful. Today we played for ourselves.")

That day is proof of something simple: the want to play doesn't go away. It just gets buried under chores, and nobody ever asks about it again.
KheloRi is not a one-day sports event and it is not simply a distribution of sports kits.
A kit is not the goal. A team is.We want girls to have something many have never had before:
a team to belong to, a regular time to play, equipment they can use, someone to guide them, and matches they can look forward to.
EVA will work with girls, parents, community members and Panchayats to create village-level KheloRi clubs.
Each club will work towards having:
₹500 — helps one girl get ready to play
₹1,500 — helps support a girl's equipment, coaching and matches for a season
₹5,000 — contributes towards equipping a girls' team
₹15,000 — helps keep a village team practising and playing
₹30,000 — can help establish one KheloRi Village Club with equipment, regular practice and a season of matches*
*Final expenditure will depend on local costs and the requirements of each club. Funds will be pooled wherever necessary to provide the complete programme.
And then we want to keep going.
EVA currently works across 36 villages in Jharkhand.
Our larger dream is :nOne girls' sports club in every village where we work.
Not one sports day. Not one photograph.
A team that comes back to the field next week. And the week after that.
Supporters of KheloRi will receive updates from the field — practices, teams, matches, tournaments and stories from the girls and communities building these clubs.
Because your contribution should not end when you click Donate.
You should be able to see the team you helped put on the field.
₹500 can help one girl take her first step onto the field.
₹30,000 can help an entire village start changing who gets to play there.
