Story

New Crisis: The education system in India is facing a new crisis. A total of 320 million learners in India have been adversely affected by CoVID-19. Besides the effect on short-term learning outcomes, extended school closures will result in a loss of human capital and diminished economic opportunities in the long run.

Digital Divide: The rapid shift to e-learning prompted by the pandemic has resurfaced long-standing issues of inequality and a digital divide in India that must be addressed by future economic, education, and digitalization policies. The task is huge. Yet several development organizations and corporates are coming forward in their own ways to address the challenges.

Reaching the Unreached: During the Pandemic Bhavishya Bharat committed itself to adopt 6 primary and secondary schools in the city of Hyderabad to help students from poorer urban communities absorb the shock and provide a learning environment. This meant reaching out to 800 students and 58 teachers with necessary logistical, technical, and management inputs. Encouraged by the success of this pilot initiative we want to reach out to more such students and teachers in the city.

  1. Adopt 5 government schools for a period of 3 years for improvement in infrastructure (minor), a clean environment, better water, and sanitation conditions.
  2. Setting up 1 digital classroom in each of the 10 schools with proper infrastructure, equipped with 10 computers and internet facilities.
  3. Capacity Building of approximately 50 teachers on basic computers (hardware and software) equipped to handle offline and online classes.
  4. Improvement in motivational levels of teachers through counselling and motivational talks.
  5. Training of approximately 500-600 students on basic computers and use of internet services for improved e-learning.
  6. Strengthening parent-teacher interface for improving learning environment and outcome.
  7. Promotion of games and sports activities in the adopted 5 schools.
  1. The learning environment gets improved through digital and non-digital inputs.
  2. 5 digital classrooms set up and in use by the end of 2 months of intervention.
  3. 80 per cent of teachers are trained in basic computers and are using the digital classroom for online/offline e-learning of students.
  4. Approximately 500-600 students at primary and secondary levels are able to access and use digital facilities by end of year 2.
  5. At least 60 % of the schools have functional and active parent-teacher meetings for improvement in the learning outcome of students.
  6. Visible/measurable improvement in games and sports activities.
