- In India, even though 97% of children go to school, children in 3rd grade do not have basic reading and arithmetic skills
- There’s a shortage of professionally qualified government teachers.
- 90% of content on the internet is in English; creating a generation of youth with untapped potential and lower employment opportunities
- To develop a learning mindset and English literacy skills to enable every child in India to be self-reliant.
- English literacy skills give access to higher learning opportunities and the global marketplaces
- Build English literacy with 21st Century Skills and develop their mindset to be future-ready
- Aid schools with content and books
- Train teachers in improving their English and provide tools and knowledge to improve in-classroom practices
- Students deserve an excellent education in a safe environment that allows them to learn, experiment, and grow. Together with state governments across India, the Pehlay Akshar Foundation works with primary school teachers and children.
- To create a deeper impact, we have launched the Learning Rooms Project. This collaborative space provides a wealth of resources, equipment, and skilled personnel for enhancing English literacy and 21st-century skills. Currently, we are working in 8 BMC schools in Mumbai, and in phase 2, we will expand to 15 BMC schools across 24 wards of Mumbai and some schools in Thane.
- We want to expand the learning room model into rural and semi-urban areas of the state and establish a multi-year decentralized model across schools to improve students' English learning outcomes and to help teachers improve their teaching practices.
