For the past three years, Vanangana has been working inside the jails of Chitrakoot and Banda districts with one urgent belief: when a woman is imprisoned, she loses far more than her freedom. Society turns its back. Families stop visiting. Even her children look at her with shame. Slowly, her identity fades—and the jail becomes her entire world.

But these women are not forgotten.

When our team visits these jails, we meet women who have been incarcerated for years—many of them for minor or unjust reasons—desperately seeking legal support to fight their cases. But due to limited resources, we’re often unable to provide the legal aid they urgently need.

पिछले तीन वर्षों से वनांगना चित्रकूट और बांदा ज़िलों की जेलों में महिलाओं के साथ काम कर रही है—एक गहरी समझ के साथ कि जब एक महिला जेल जाती है, तो वह केवल अपनी आज़ादी नहीं खोती—बल्कि समाज और परिवार भी उसका साथ छोड़ देते हैं। कोई उससे मिलने नहीं आता। बच्चे और रिश्तेदार उसे तिरस्कार की नज़र से देखते हैं। धीरे-धीरे उसकी पहचान खो जाती है, और जेल ही उसकी पूरी दुनिया बन जाती है।

लेकिन ये महिलाएं अकेली नहीं हैं।

जब हमारी टीम जेलों का दौरा करती है, तो हम ऐसी महिलाएं पाते हैं जो वर्षों से सलाखों के पीछे हैं—कई बार मामूली या अन्यायपूर्ण कारणों से—जो न्याय की तलाश में हैं, और कानूनी सहायता की सख्त ज़रूरत है। लेकिन सीमित बजट के कारण, हम अक्सर उनकी मदद नहीं कर पाते।
