More than a billion people in one of the world's oldest civilisations are ravaged by the pandemic and a deadly new strain that has taken many lives in the last four weeks. The excessive cases has put extreme pressure on the country's healthcare infrastructure, which has led to acute shortage of oxygen and other vital medical equipment across India.

Oxygen supply - the need of the hour

The image of many patient families crying and crowding outside hospitals desperate to get urgent medical help for their kith and kin is etched in our memories. Thousands have lost their loved ones to this growing crisis. There is a critical and immediate need for oxygen in hospitals. Funds raised on this fundraiser will help in:

Providing oxygen: 

• By setting up oxygen generation plants in hospitals/Covid facility compounds in tier 1 and 2 Indian cities
• By providing oxygen concentrators, which use oxygen from the air and convert it to medical grade oxygen. A patient in need of a concentrator needs to be on it for 5-7 days 
• By providing oxygen cylinders that help a person in need of oxygen support for 5-7 days

Providing protective gear: Charitable hospitals and Covid Care Centres are in need of PPE kits, N-95 and 3ply masks, hand sanitisers and bed sheets among other things.

Helping low-income families bereaved by COVID overcome their loss

Each death to COVID is a tragedy that could have been avoided. The daily fatality number has now crossed 4,000+ and is expected to stay at such high levels in the coming weeks.

For many heartbroken families, these numbers represent important, able, working members whose departure will also leave them financially bereft - especially so for those already struggling to make ends meet.

As they adjust to their new reality - to try and ease the pain for the first few weeks - GiveIndia will be initiating direct bank transfers to families of the deceased through our trusted NGO partners. Each bereaved family will receive a one-time humanitarian cash support of ₹30,000 (approx $410) to help with living expenses.

Feeding the hungry: Cooked food and ration kits for families

Your contribution can also save the hungry from starvation. GiveIndia is working to serve meals to municipal wards, orphanages, elderly in need, sick patients and daily wagers in need across Maharashtra and other states that have Covid hotspots..

Each meal will be a nutritional platter comprising healthy staples like rice, daal, vegetables, chapati and more. Rations kits will contain daal, rice, salt, oil, atta, masala, tea, sugar etc.
