India is currently the world’s most affected country by the COVID19 Pandemic with more than 300,000 official deaths and many more severely affected by the pandemic. And many deaths have been due to severe Oxygen Shortages occurring all over the country.
Tamil Nadu is no exception and is badly affected by the shortage.
What are we trying to do?
Yevvi (along with NGO Bhumi) is raising funds to buy oxygen Concentrators and rent it for free to people affected with Level-2 of Covid-19-led lung damage.
Oxygen Concentrators can be used in homes, is completely safe and gives people more chance of recovery. They concentrate the oxygen present in atmospheric air and doesn’t require liquid oxygen which is tough to produce and transport.
Human lives will be saved, kindly donate.
Who are we?
Balaji, Logesh Velusamy, Karthik V, Mynarajan, Ragunathan, Raja Vijay, Ram Kumar, Sathish Mayil & Suhail came up together to form Yevvi.
Yevi (எவ்வி means 'upliftment' in Tamil) is a small step to help us on the path towards normalcy.
It was created on May 16th, 2021 by a group of do-gooders who couldn’t stand still watching one of the biggest humanitarian crisis in the last one hundred years.
We believe that even small efforts matter, and can make a telling difference in the lives of some people.
The Covid-19 crisis has caused damage to all sections of the society, and requires immediate efforts to contain it. It will need consistent efforts over a long period of time, as the rebuild will be take time and need enormous resources. We are determined to stay the course, and expand Yevvi to make it an all-inclusive social funding platform to find the upliftment of people through interventions in healthcare, education, and culture.
We are in the process of registering ourselves, and will complete all legal formalities in the upcoming months when normalcy is restored.
Till Yevvi is registered, how will the funds be managed?
Since we are not registered yet, we don’t have a bank account in the name of the organization. Until that materializes, ,Bhumi (http://www.bhumi.ngo) has gracefully agreed to accept our donations into their account for all our fund-raising activities. These funds will be properly managed, accounted for, and filed with the authorities.
We would like to thank Dr. Prahalathan, Co-Founder, Bhumi for understanding our situation and helping us out.
After working with various Government Hospitals in Chennai, we realized that there is a lot of demand for Oxygen Concentrators in the suburbs around Chennai. After talking to some good Samaritans, we found that the Government Hospitals at Walajabad (3 Units) and Uthiramerur (2 Units) needed Oxygen Concentrators on priority.
Our founding members Ragunathan and Mynarajan, drove to both these places and delivered these Oxygen Concentrators in person.
Both these hospitals have agreed to return the Concentrators once the crisis eases. At that point, the same will be donated to far-flung places to meet their demand, as it emerges.
Orders for 5 oxygen concentrators have been made and they will be delivered by Saturday, May 29th.
Considering the full lockdown in place, we are trying to figure out whether we can rent (for free) to the people needing it. If it proves to be difficult, we are thinking of giving it a Government hospital or a Primary Health Center. We will keep you all posted regarding the progress.
