Let's Make Kadlekayi Parishe Green Again

Campaign by Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT)

Story

We stand at the cusp of a transformative movement, and we invite you to be the change-makers of tomorrow! The Kadalekayi Parishee, a celebration deeply rooted in tradition, is taking a giant leap towards sustainability, and we need your support to make it happen.

Kadalekayi Parishee: A Timeless Celebration of Tradition

Dive into the enchanting legacy of this festival, affectionately known as the Groundnut Festival, tracing its roots back to 1537 AD. This annual gathering captures the essence of centuries-old rituals, where farmers honor Nandi, the sacred bull, believed to be Lord Shiva's vehicle by presenting their first harvest of groundnuts. The event, held on the last Monday of Kartika month usually in November or early December, transforms the streets into a vibrant showcase of culture, offering a sensory delight of roasted groundnuts, handcrafted treasures, and a community spirit that transcends time.

Join us in preserving this cultural tapestry and supporting the enduring spirit of Kadalekayi Parishee by making this a green event.

The Cause: A Plastic-Free Celebration

In a world where the global trade in plastics surpasses 71,43,000 crores annually, the economic toll of plastic pollution is staggering—ranging from 25,00,276 crores to 50,00,553 crores each year. Tons of single-use plastic during Kadalekayi Parishee contributes significantly to this crisis.

Picture this, vibrant streets adorned with heaps of groundnuts, the aroma of freshly roasted nuts wafting through the air, and the joyous spirit of a community celebrating the harvest. Now, imagine all of this without the burden of plastic bags, weaving a dissonant layer above the soil. This plastic tapestry, born from our collective addiction to convenience, casts a shadow on the beauty of Kadalekayi Parishee. Untreated, this waste inflicts irreparable damage on ecosystems and human health.

Join us in making Kadalekayi Parishee a beacon of change, demonstrating that a low-waste event is not just a choice but a necessity for a healthier, economically viable future.
