“Let’s Talk RED” – a program dedicated to promoting menstrual hygiene among underserved girls and women

Story

The project 'Let's Talk RED' aims to combat period poverty by raising awareness about menstrual hygiene, improving menstrual health among girls and women, and fostering a culture of openness and acceptance regarding menstruation.

In many underserved communities, menstrual hygiene remains a taboo topic, leading to a lack of education and resources for managing menstruation. This can result in serious health issues for girls and women. Through targeted interventions and educational initiatives, we aim to empower women to take control of their menstrual health and break the silence surrounding menstruation.

Indian Dreams Foundation (IDF) needs donor support on a regular basis so that this vital programme can be sustained and scaled. Help IDF through monthly donations.

Charitable donations to this fundraising campaign are tax exempted under 80G of the Income Tax Act (India).

IDF's Menstrual Health Activities

  1. Period Counseling Point (PCP): Establish dedicated spaces to provide information, services, and counseling on menstrual hygiene to women and girls.
  2. Sensitization Workshops or Sessions in Schools: Conduct workshops in schools to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. Establish peer groups within schools to promote ongoing education and support.
  3. Cluster Meetings/Focus Group Meetings: Organize awareness sessions in target communities to sensitize women and girls about menstrual hygiene as a human right. These meetings will help normalize discussions around menstrual health.
  4. "Save4Period" Gullak (Penny Bank): Encourage girls to save money for menstrual hygiene products by providing them with "Save4Period" Gullaks. This initiative promotes financial independence and dignity in managing menstruation.
  5. Period Tracker Card: Issue Period Tracker Cards to girls to help them monitor their menstrual cycles and identify any irregularities. This tool, developed by experts, will empower girls to take control of their menstrual health.
  6. Distribution of Menstrual Products: Provide free menstrual products such as sanitary napkins, underwear, soap, and vaginal wash to ensure hygiene during menstruation.
  7. Recruitment & Training of Program Team: Recruit and train a dedicated team including coordinators, consultants, field staff, and accountants to implement and oversee the project effectively.
