“A blind child is seen as a curse or as a burden to the family. These children are left on the street. I have picked up children from roadsides myself. I also lost my eyesight as a child but today I am a senior officer in a public sector company. What would I have done, had I not been taken care of?” asks Veena Mehta Verma who was once a beneficiary of National Association for the Blind, Delhi (NAB) and now works with the NGO to protect and care for blind children like herself.Today, hundreds of blind children supported by NAB, Delhi have found something that they never had before–hope for a better tomorrow. A life of uncertainty and suffering
Even if a blind child is not abandoned they are often trapped in their homes deprived of education or any way of making a living.
According to the nonprofit leader, “For a blind kid, employment is impossible without education. The (blind) kids need to learn Braille or they need ‘talking computer’ aids. Many of these kids are deprived of such facilities”. Illuminating young lives
“At NAB Delhi there are around 200-250 blind kids. There are around 180 kids in the hostel of NAB. We teach Braille, we teach arithmetic Taylor frames. To work towards a brighter future for the blind, we need your support. Please come forward and donate towards our mission”, says Veena.
Students for whom NAB Delhi has cared for are today placed in some of the most prestigious organisations across the world. While some have gone on to make a name for themselves in the corporate world, others have taken up art and music as a profession too. - We continued to provide a residential facility with proper supervision and day care facilities for 180 children with visual impairments.
- Routine health checkups were performed, and medicines and other hygiene products were delivered to the residents.
- Nutritional meals were supplied to the children to promote their overall development.
- Technology training workshops were arranged to teach independent living skills to the children.
- Special educators provided integrated education and recreational activities for the children.

If given an opportunity, nothing stops boys and girls with visual impairments from changing the world. But it's up to us to give them that chance. Please take a look at how we have maintained our excellent standards of education and care in the period April '25 - September '25:
- Three nutritious meals were provided daily to 180 visually impaired children
- Medical check-ups and hygiene support were delivered, covering routine medications, personal hygiene items, and overall well-being
- Safe and reliable transportation support was provided to the children through regular fuel supply for school, training, and medical visits
- Daily kitchen operations were maintained because of an uninterrupted fuel supply
- Recreational and therapeutic activities were conducted, including festivals, sports, cultural events, and confidence-building sessions for all 180 children
- Special education services were provided by trained special educators, supporting academic development and inclusive learning for all children
- Daily living skills training (mobility, grooming, self-help routines, tactile learning, and basic technology use) was offered regularly to enhance independence
- Technology training was provided to help children use accessible digital tools, screen readers, mobility apps, and assistive devices.
- Dedicated caregiving support was available round-the-clock to ensure safety, emotional well-being, and guided routines for the children.
Parents struggle to find schools accessible to their children with visual impairments. As a result, these kids go without education and live their lives permanently wondering if they could have been something more. But with your help, they don't have to wonder.
