Formed in 2014, Mahila Kisan Adhikaar Manch (MAKAAM) is a nationwide informal alliance of various individuals and organisations of farming women, of women farmers' collectives, civil society organisations, researchers and activists, drawn from 24 states of India, to secure due recognition and rights of women farmers in India. Our Mission:The mission of MAKAAM is to visibilise women farmers, especially smallholder marginalised women, with a development vision led by social justice, plurality of knowledge systems and sustainability driven by ecological approaches. We endeavour to create and secure rights over productive livelihood resources (land in particular) as well as entitlements over a variety of support systems, with equal participation of women in decision-making in various institutions, starting family upwards, to ensure empowered, self-reliant and sustainable women's livelihoods.MAKAAM is an informal alliance, and yet, in a few short years it has evolved as a major platform for rallying the combined strength of all of our member organisations and individual activists and researchers. Requesting your support:We would like to request your support and donation for our activities as well as supporting the salary of our coordinator. Gramya Resource Centre for Women was formed in 1993 to promote women's rights to equality. Gramya's vision is to create a just society, which will provide political, social and economic opportunities for women, especially tribal and dalit women. In the context of rural livelihoods, Gramya works with Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) as a common platform working for the well-being and rights of farming community, and for addressing the crisis of farmer suicides and assisting the victim families. RSV's efforts are helping thousands of distressed farmer families and also organizing farmers to advocate for better policies and better implementation of existing support systems. Gramya also supports RSV's efforts to help other marginalized sections of the society. We also work for women farmers' rights through Mahila Kisan Adhikar Manch (MAKAAM).Gramya promotes Child Rights with a focus on the girl child and education. We work closely with Community Based Organizations, women's organizations, youth leadership, and like-minded Civil Society Organizations at the local, state, national and International levels to seek justice for marginalized communities. We believe that patriarchal mindsets are underpinned by the material basis of women’s lives. The double burden of work at home and outside and deprivations resulting from low wages and disenfranchisement from property continue to place women in a secondary position and vulnerable to violence. To overcome barriers, Gramya works to mainstream gender equality by promoting women's rights to land, water, and forests. Having successfully campaigned against international trafficking of girl babies, currently we continue our struggle to prevent sex selection and infanticide.
