Story

Every 3 seconds, someone in India needs blood. However, despite half the country's population being energetic youth, India continues to face a massive shortage (about 30 lakh units every year) of safe and timely blood units . Due to COVID, this situation has further deteriorated, with less people coming forward to donate blood. There is, therefore, an urgent need to -

  • Create mass awareness and eliminate the myths that hold people back from voluntary blood donation
  • Organize large number of blood donation camps and assist blood banks in ensuring a sustainable and sufficient supply of blood
  • Get the youth involved in creating a nationwide movement to make India blood sufficient through safe voluntary blood donation

Since its inception in IIT Delhi in 2010, BloodConnect has successfully developed a comprehensive approach to solving the blood shortage by

  1. Spreading awareness through webinars, street plays, concerts, and other channels. In 2023, we plan to organize 500+ awareness events to reach out to and motivate more than 10 million people to become blood donors and ambassadors for the cause.
  2. Blood Donation Camps - Ensuring a continuous supply of blood to blood banks via regular donation camps. In 2023, we will organize 200+ blood donation camps, aiming to collect 15000+ voluntary blood units, with RWAs, markets, malls, colleges, corporates and at other places like bus stands and metro stations, wherever feasible.
  3. Blood Donation Warriors - Establishing a network of 1000+ youth across the country to become blood donation ambassadors and lead the movement

In an attempt to reach more people and save more lives, we rely on funds from individuals and organizations. We are a 100% volunteer-run, registered organization, which means our funding is primarily used for conducting events like Blood Donation Camps and awareness sessions, and is also eligible for tax deductions under 80G and CSR.

BloodConnect Foundation was started in 2010 with the mission of Making India Blood Sufficient through Voluntary Blood Donation. Over the last 12 years, we have organized 1446 camps, and collected 128500+ blood units, saving 385,500 lives. Through our 1182 online and offline awareness events across India, we have reached more than 20 million people, making them aware of the cause. In the last three pandemic-hit most challenging years for the blood donation, our team rose to the challenges, organized 485 blood donation camps, collected more than 25,000 units through camps and direct donations at blood bank. However, the mission of Blood Sufficient India is still far, there is a shortage of a few million units every year, and it is still one of the least discussed social issues.
