Making Science Easy and Interesting for Children in Kolhapur Schools

Twelve-year-old Khushi had read about filtration in her science textbook.

But she had never seen a water filter in action.

Her school had no laboratory.

During a Chhote Kalam Science session, Khushi built her own working filter using simple materials and proudly demonstrated it to her classmates.

For the first time, science was not something to memorize; it was something she could touch, test and understand.

Across rural schools in Kolhapur, thousands of children learn science without laboratories, equipment or opportunities for experimentation.

Science often remains limited to textbooks and examinations.

Without hands-on learning, children struggle to connect concepts with real life.

Through the Chhote Kalam Science Project, Vidyoday Muktangan Parivar Foundation brings science directly to schools through activity-based learning, experiments, science kits, model-making sessions and innovation challenges.

Children learn by observing, building, testing and discovering.
