“KARUNASAGAR” is a part of RMD pain and palliative care trust, providing hospice services for terminally ill patients. The focus of “KARUNASAGAR” is on providing care to patients from the lower socio-economic group. It is situated in leased premises located at No-158, 5th Cross Street, Pallavan Nagar, Maduravoyal, Chennai - 600 095. It consists of 50 beds with trained professionals in palliative care, four beds for end of life care male and female wards isolation room and room for an exclusive area for the end-of-life care with an experienced and qualified palliative medical team. There are a lot of people who approach us for residential support and taking care of such needy people. As RMD hospice already has a team, it would be able to intervene and provide care.

RMD shall be getting involved in various training programmes for nurses, attendees, volunteers, doctors, community workers, VHNs, and home health care providers. RMD has launched an exclusive training academy for healthcare training.

Our Courses are accredited, and we have empanelled with various government schemes to give bedside training to underprivileged girls and also give them job opportunities. So far, we have trained 400 candidates, and 80% have got placed in various hospitals.

•Create a replication model. The organisation has been able to establish a sustainable project like hospice and hospital-based care for over 110 patients.

•Integrated elderly palliative services.

The ward would have ten beds exclusively for such patients. It would involve nurses, physiotherapists, occupational rehabilitation care specialists, led by a two-doctor team.

The unit shall be a pilot to care for patients who cannot afford long term ICU in corporate and they need continuous pain and other interventions.

It would be a unique facility where we allow DNR (do not resuscitate) families to be around patients, reduce intervention, thereby giving them the treatment towards supportive palliative care.

“We add life to days, not days to life”. The support for the candidates will increase the staff where there is a huge demand for such staff nurses who are well qualified.

The ward will look after ten such patients who are severely ill and do not have anybody to look after them.
