Menstrual Hygiene Management & Awareness Program

Still in rural area more than 62% adolescent school girls are unaware about good hygiene practices during menstrual period. Still they are using traditional old clothes instead of sanitary pads during menses due to which there are chances of them catching infections. Many girls are unaware about dietary management and there are many traditional taboos due to which school drop-out ratio is very high. Hence, there is need of Menstrual Hygiene Management Program in each and every school especially rural area.

As HARC, we have already started working on 'Menstrual Hygiene Management Program's since January 2019. So plan to organise this awareness program in each and every school of Parbhani, Hongpai, Nanded, Beed district especially rural area by giving them workshops on menstrual cycle, its general physiology, hygienic practices, use of sanitary pads, care and diet during menses, management of various menstrual problems, disposals of sanitary pads and self assessment exam to eradicate any disbelief and various misunderstanding about menstrual cycle. So we are planning to organize such program in Zilha Parishad High School especially for adolescent girls and for various self help groups of women and interaction with them and will educate through LCD projector and free distribution of sanitary pads etc.

In future there will not be a single adolescent girl who is using traditional old clothes. Instead she will start using sanitary pads or self made sanitary pads from clean and good clothes, there will be proper disposal of sanitary pads through incinerator or proper disposal through good hygiene practices. Due to awareness among adolescent school girls about such good hygiene practices, their parent will also get educated through the positive interaction and dialogue between daughters and mothers. Eventually, school drop-out ratio due to menstrual period shall reduce to zero.
